Forget Fluoride! Use Homemade Toothpastes

The conventional toothpastes we get from the supermarket shelves – that include synthetic dyes derived from petroleum or coal tar, sodium hydroxide (also known as lye or caustic soda), sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, artificial sweeteners, triclosan and the overly hazardous fluoride – should make us twink twice before buying them for the sake of our overall health.

Even though we are not swallowing the toothpaste with all of these toxic chemicals, our gums are easily absorbing them and it’s unavoidable that a bit will enter our bloodstream without too much effort. And taking in consideration that the majority of us brush the teeth at least once per day, the amount that is going to accumulate in our bodies over a period of time is signifacantly enough to disrupt our health at a certain point of our lives.

The most notorious chemical of all these is fluoride. Fluoride is an endocrine-disrupting, neurotoxic, and bone-weakening substance that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines as a drug when used to prevent disease, because unlike the minerals we need (e.g. calcium), humans have no known physiological requirement for fluoride. All of the researchers and scientists who have studied the fluoride, in their studies have found out that prolonged ingestion of fluoride can damage the brain because of its neurotoxicity.

It’s a final call to stop poisoning our temples anymore and use the nature for everything we need as we ourselves are nature. I am giving you three easy recipes for homemade toothpastes with natural ingreidents. To whiten my teeth, I am brushing them with active carbon before sleep and in the morning even before taking water, I am doing oil pulling with organic coconut oil for approximately twenty minutes as a bactericide.

Recipe #1
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, finely ground
10 drops peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil
few drops of water

Recipe #2
6 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
2 tablespoons coconut oil (must be liquid)
10 drops peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil

Recipe #3
5 parts Calcium Magnesium Powder
2 parts Baking Soda
3-5 parts coconut oil to get desired texture
Optional ingredients: Essential oils for flavor (mint, cinnamon, and orange are all good), Grapefruit Seed Extract, Myrrh and Trace Minerals
3 parts Xylitol powder (alcohol sugar) – this ingredient is not completely necessary, but just keeps it from tasting bitter

To keep things simple, just use a teaspoon or tablespoon, depending on the size batch you are making.

1. Mix all powdered ingredients well in a bowl. If you are starting with tablets, powder them in a food processor. If you are starting with capsules, dump them out into the bowl.

2. Add oil one part at a time until you get desired consistency.

3. Add any optional ingredients, including Essential Oils for flavor.

4. Store in small container like 1/2 pint glass jar. To use, either dip clean toothbrush into it, or use popsicle stick or spoon to put on toothbrush.
