Cinnamon has a very powerful and distinct scent. Ants have a very powerful sense of smell. The cinnamon scent is actually the thing that will keep these insects away. They really don’t like this scent and that acts as a repellent that will keep them from invading your home.
You can prepare a solution by adding ½ teaspoon of cinnamon essential oil to a glass of water. Put this in a spray bottle and spray it on the areas where ants live. You can also put this on a cloth and wipe down the areas. If you want to protect your garden from these unwanted guests you can put whole cloves of cinnamon outside and the scent will surely keep them away.
Hot cayenne pepper
You can sprinkle cayenne pepper and its seeds around the areas that are infested. Cayenne pepper is known as one of the thing that will repel/deter ants. Prepare a hot boiling bath for them. Boil some water with cayenne pepper in it (a bunch of it). Once the water is boiling take it off the stove. Find the cracks and pathways that ants use and pour the boiling water there. This mix of boiling water and cayenne pepper will kill them instantly.
Borax and sugar cotton balls
Ants are immediately attracted to sugar and will try to get to it. Borax is a chemical that will kill the ants so if you combine these two you have the perfect combination to kill the ants.
You can prepare this solution by adding ½ cup of white sugar and 1.5 teaspoon of borax into an empty container. Add 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved. The next things you need are the cotton balls. Soak them into the water and then place them on the spots where you have ants. The sugar will attract them but the borax will kill them.
