Table salt is composed of sodium chloride, a chemical substance that is a part of a larger class of salts. Sea salt, on the contrary, along with bay and solar salt are formed by evaporation of the sea water. This ingredient is significant for people’s life, being consumed on daily basis for cooking. However, salt can be used in beauty products as well. It can do miracles to your hair and skin.

Adding a tablespoon of salt to a dollop of shampoo will gently exfoliate the scalp and easily dissolve and rinse out without leaving any residue on hair. And not only are you removing all the gunk more efficiently, but nixing dead skin cells allows conditioners to penetrate efficiently. So you’re getting a deeper clean and better moisture, all at the same time.

Using Salt for Hair

Anti-Oily Hair

Oily hair is a reaction of excessively active sebaceous glands on the scalp, which produce too much oil. Fortunately, this annoying issue can be solved by using salt. All you need to do is add 2 or 3 tablespoons in the shampoo you usually use and wash your hair with it. You will notice the results even after the first few treatments. Your hair will be healthy without any excess of oil.

Anti-Dandruff Treatment

Dandruff is a layer of small pieces of dead skin cells formed on the scalp. Salt has the ability to stimulate the circulation which is very important for a healthy scalp and eliminates the existing dandruff flakes. It also defends the scalp from fungal growth. Just divide your hair into sections, sprinkle 1 or 2 teaspoons of salt on your scalp and massage with wet fingers for around 10 minutes. Then wash as usual.

For Hair Growth

If you suffer from alopecia, i.e. hair loss, use sea salt treatment to naturally stimulate hair growth. Just wash your hair as you normally do. Then, massage your wet scalp with sea salt for 10 – 15 minutes and wash your hair again. Do this treatment twice a week for 2 months and the results will surprise you.

Salt can also be used for many other cosmetic purposes:

  • Face toner: Sea salt will penetrate into your skin pores deeply and clean them. Moreover, it will control the production of oil and fight bacteria to prevent acne. Mix 1 tsp of sea salt and 4 oz. of water (warm) and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray it on clean and dry skin 1-2 times daily and avoid the area around your eyes.
  • Soothe Sunburn:Mix a cup of water with two tablespoons of Epsom salt and spray the solution onto the sunburn to get a quick relief.
  • Soften Callused Feet:Add half a cup of Epsom salt into tub with warm water and soak the feet for a few minutes.
  • Face scrub: You can make your own facial scrub with coconut oil and salt. Mix the ingredients together, work the scrub in a circular motion, and then rinse with warm water. This will help your skin stay hydrated while removing dead skin cells.

Most of the western world thinks of salt as sodium chloride — a highly refined, processed white substance that’s devoid of nutrients. Salt is so devoid of nutrients, in fact, that in the early 20th century, doctors noticed that people who ate white table salt started to suffer chronic degenerative diseases such as goiter. This was caused by the lack of iodine in the salt.

Himalayan pink salt is packed with over 84 trace minerals and elements that make it incredibly nourishing for your body. Pink salt has numerous benefits from helping the body detoxify to boosting energy to improving digestion to promoting healthy hair, skin, and nails.

Over a thousand miles away from the world’s most well-known mountain are the foothills of the Himalayan salt range and the Khewra Salt Mine. Long ago, a shallow sea existed here. When it evaporated millions of years ago, it left behind massive reserves of crystallized sea salt. Over the years, this incredible pink salt became deposited deeply below the resourceful mountains. This is where the tasty and nutritious Himalayan sea salt can be salvaged.

Although the salt mines have been operational and active for longer than 100 years, it’s only been recently that the extensive health benefits of pink Himalayan sea salt are starting becoming widely appreciated. Because of the natural underground formation of the salt beds, there was a fertile environment for a number of trace minerals which formed together with the salt, leading to increased nutrition.

Among the various trace elements and minerals are the well-known pillars of good health such as calcium, potassium, the sulfates, zinc, magnesium, iodine and more. All together, there are over 84 additional nutrients found in pink Himalayan salt.

So how do you use it?

Of course you can use pink salt in any dish you would use regular salt in, but it goes beyond that too. Pink Himalayan sea salt is what everyone’s talking about these days. It can be found almost anywhere, including the grocery store as a tasty seasoning salt. Epsom salt is composed of only two minerals: magnesium and sulfate. It’s been around since the 1500s, and it’s here to stay. Epsom salts have been used to treat a variety of health ailments by numerous cultures for centuries. Epsom salt baths have astounding health benefits and are an excellent way to destress and detoxify the whole body.

However, these salts are not just beneficial for healing the human body. They are are useful as household cleaners and can even nourish the garden. You can find bulk Epsom salts at gardening stores almost everywhere, making them a real health bargain.

The name Epsom salts comes from its origination of a bitter saline spring found at Epsom in Surrey, England. Unlike other naturally occurring salts, Epsom salts are formed from a pure mineral compound containing magnesium and sulfate. Both magnesium and sulfate stimulate detoxification pathways in the body. You can find it in most drugstores, usually around the aspirin and laxatives. Many grocery and natural food stores also carry it. A large box costs just a few dollars.

In water, it breaks down into magnesium and sulfate. The theory is that when you soak in an Epsom salt bath, these get into your body through your skin. That hasn’t been proven, but just soaking in warm water can help relax muscles and loosen stiff joints.

People use Epsom salt baths as a home treatment for:

Natural Arthritis Treatments explain that Epsom salts contain a high level of sulfate and magnesium, and these two ingredients work together to help individuals with arthritis. Magnesium is an essential mineral in the body and also possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Combining this with the circulation-boosting effects of warm water creates a powerful system for naturally relieving pain and inflammation associated with knee arthritis. To experience arthritis knee pain relief with Epsom salt baths, simply mix some Epsom salt into a warm bath. Two cups are usually enough, but if the pain is more serious, then you can use three cups instead. Relax in the warm water for approximately half an hour before you get out.

How to prepare the bath:

  • Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to the water in a standard-sized bathtub (double the Epsom salt for an oversized garden tub).
  • Soak for at least 12 minutes
  • The Epsom salt will dissolve quicker if you put it under the running water.

Note: For human use, the Epsom Salt Council recommends only Epsom salt with the USP designation.

An Epsom salt bath is an effective alternative remedy that is used by many people and provides fast relief to the most common symptoms that knee arthritis causes. As always if you have any serious symptoms please consult your doctor.
